Sue Herera is an American journalist who is currently working as a breaking news anchor for CNBC. She provides regular news updates throughout the station’s Business Day programming. Herera also serves as the network’s lead anchor for breaking news stories. Prior to her current position, she co-anchored “Nightly Business Report,” an award-winning evening business news program that was produced by CNBC for United States public television.
She attended California State University at Northridge in 1980 and earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism. At the University, she was honored with the University’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2003.
After she graduated, Herera interned at the KNXT TV station in Los Angeles. In 1981, she was hired by Financial News Network, a cable TV station that had just launched that year, as an associate producer and writer covering the futures markets.
Herera was among CNBC’s founding members when it launched in 1989. Since then, she has anchored and co-anchored the CNBC shows Market Wrap, and Business Tonight, among others. In 2015, Herera became the anchor for the Nightly Business Report TV show, and Bill Griffeth joined her in 2018. Bill had previously worked with her on Power Lunch.
From 2019 until February 2021, she read one-minute news recaps at the top and bottom of the hour. However, he retired from day-to-day broadcasting in February 2021.
Moreover, she featured 14 successful female investment professionals in her book, Women of the Street: Making It on Wall Street. CSUN named her a 2003 honoree in the university’s Distinguished Alumni Awards Program for her outstanding achievements.
