Tamika Scott Biography
Tamika Scott is an American R&B singer and songwriter. Scott is popular for being a member of the multi-platinum-selling R&B group Xscape, which rose to fame in the 1990s. Additionally, she is also a music producer and actress with a film credit in There’s a Stranger in My House. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Tamika engaged in singing at the early age of 4 years old.
Scott occasionally performed in places such as local talent shows, churches, and weddings. At the age of 9, she had only recorded her first song with her sister Latocha. Later on, she attended Tri-Cities High School of Performing Arts in Atlanta, Georgia, before being transferred to Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia where she graduated in 1993.
While at school, Tamika together with her friend and sister La Tocha Scott started singing together and formed a band called Xscape. After the group’s major debut performance at BET’s Teen Summit in 1992, the girls were introduced to record executive Ian Burke, who later became the group’s manager. Xscape soon caught the attention of Jermaine Dupri, who later signed the group to his So So Def Recordings.
Furthermore, the band was able to release their debut album Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha which peaked at number seventeen on the U.S. Billboard 200 and number three on the Top R&B Albums chart. It was their first commercial success within a year, which enabled them to launch two hit singles, “Just Kickin’ It” and “Understanding”; both of which entered the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at number one on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart.

Thereafter, it follow-up the release of some singles albums such as “Love on My Mind”, “Tonight”, “Freedom”, and, “Off the Hook,”.Most of their album’s production was produced by Jermaine Dupri and featured guest vocals from MC Lyte. However, later Xscape’s breakup, Tamika took a step further in her career and starred in Donald Gray’s musical stage plays “Man Of My Dreams” and “A Good Man Is Hard To Find”. She played the sassy role of Milay in Tyler Perry’s Block Buster hit “Meet The Browns.” Tamika wrote and produced four songs for Tyler Perry’s movie soundtrack “Daddy’s Little Girls” which is in stores now.
She also has a song on the soundtrack titled “Greatest Gift,” which is said to be the love song of the century! Tamika has written hit songs for Xscape, Jaheim, Musiq Soulchild, Anthony Hamilton, Yolanda Adams, and Letoya. She also wrote a song for Jim Carey’s “The Mask” soundtrack, wrote and produced for the “Hard Ball Soundtrack” Starring Keanu Reeves, and wrote and performed the title song from Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married” soundtrack. She was also featured on the soundtrack for Daddy’s Little Girl, performing the song Greatest Gift.

Prior to that, she also appeared in the second season of the TV One show R&B Divas in 2013. Afterward, Xscape reunited in 2017, they announced they would be releasing a biopic about the band. In the biopic, Scott plans to be played by her daughter. However, the band was followed by Bravo as they prepared for the Essence Festival. In 2019, Tamika released her first solo project since her reunion with Xscape. A single entitled “Tonite” was released on her official SoundCloud and YouTube channel. Thereafter, she released her new single “Almost Over” which was announced on TV & BroadwayWorld that Scott had joined season two of the television series Conframa by executive producer Shaun Cairo Pitchfork.
