Tan France Biography
Tan France is an English Fashion designer and TV personality currently based in the United States. Originally, Tan is from Doncaster, South Yorkshire. He is famous for establishing women’s fashion lines, Kingdom and State. However, his role as the fashion expert in the Netflix revival of Queer Eye has led him to much prominence.
Tan became the very first openly gay South Asian man on a prime show. In addition, he is also the first gay Muslim man on western television. Despite him hosting the web series Dressing Funny and co-hosting Alexa Chung in Next In Fashion, he is open about his nature.
France’s interest in fashion began at a very tender age. This was after he had inspiration from the Disney clothing that was manufactured in his grandfather’s denim factory in Bury, England. Tan spent most of his childhood in the factory thus gaining a lot of interest and basic knowledge on fashion.
He later joined Hall Cross School where after completion he joined Doncaster college to study fashion. He then extended his education to Manchester and London.
After his graduation from college, Tan started working for Zara and Selfridges & Bershka, among other established retailers. This was on a trial to improve his knowledge in the wholesale business of retail. Soon after, France moved to Channel for him to learn about manufacturing.
In 2008, he began working in the United States of America later relocating fully to the country in 2015. He worked as the company director of Shade Clothing before he started his solo fashion line, Kingdom & State in 2011. His fashion brand included clothing designed to meet Mormon clothing guidelines, a group that represented a significant number in Utah where he then lived.

His fashion designs were hot selling and got market in the retailers ModCloth and Forever 21. Later on, Tan became the fashion designer and CEO for the 2016-founded Rachel Parcell clothing line, a brand that is sold at Nordstrom.
However, after doing business and selling his brand quite well, France decided to officially retire. This made Netflix get a chance to contact him as the fashion expert on Queer Eye which debuted in February 2018. This role has made Tan transit slowly into a media personality.
Furthermore, France featured in the music video for Taylor Swift’s song “You Need to Calm Down”, a video that debuted in 2019. He has also appeared in a special charity edition of The Great British Bake Off, funds which were meant to stand up for cancer. In addition, he is also co-hosting Netflix’s new series, Next In Fashion alongside Alexa Chung.
