Tannya Joaquin Biography
Tannya Joaquin is an American journalist who works as a reporter for Honolulu, Hawaii-based broadcast media station KHON-TV. She is a co-host on Living808. Joaquin brings to her role as Living808 Co-Host a lifelong passion for storytelling and over two decades of experience as an Emmy-nominated journalist.
She takes pride in telling fascinating stories about the people, places, experiences, events, and aloha that perceive Hawaii as unique.
Tanya was bitten twice by the broadcasting bug at a young age. When she was five years old, she used to produce and record her own radio shows in her bedroom. “I was extremely shy as a child, and I would only speak up if I had something interesting to say,” she explains. “Storytelling aided me in finding my voice.”
Tannya graduated from UCLA with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Moreover, Joaquin worked as a producer in Los Angeles and San Francisco, as well as an anchor in Ohio and Santa Barbara, before moving to Hawaii in 2002 and becoming the anchor of KHON’s top-rated morning newscast.
After taking a “break” from news to be a Momtrepreneur, juggling motherhood with public relations for her family business GREEN Energy, THE MODERN HONOLULU, the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival, and also Kona Brewing Company, Living808 called her back to do what she does best: storytelling and connecting with viewers.
…
Tannya has a few broadcasting credentials. She was nominated for an Emmy for her reporting on the molasses spill into Honolulu Harbor, which killed thousands of fish. Joaquin was the first Hawaii broadcaster to incorporate social media into newscasts (in 2009, would you believe?) She also played a news anchor on Hawaii Five-O, but she admits she wasn’t very convincing.
In addition, Joaquin co-hosts Living808, Hawaii’s original lifestyle show, with John Veneri and Mikey Monis, on weekdays at 9 a.m. on KHON2. If she and her ohana aren’t traveling, you’ll most likely find them on an outdoor adventure somewhere in the 808: boating, surfing, snorkeling, or hiking.
