Weijia Jiang Biography
Weijia Jiang is an American journalist who is currently working as a reporter and correspondent for CBS. She has worked as the Senior White House Correspondent for CBS News since July 2018. Her question to Donald Trump about the US COVID-19 testing program during a White House press briefing received global attention and coverage.
Raised in Buckhannon West Virginia, Jiang became interested in journalism at the age of 13 after encouragement from her eighth-grade teacher, Dianne Williams. Together, they prepared a homemade TV show to submit to a competition run by national student broadcast Channel One. This led to an opportunity for her to intern as a student anchor and reporter in Los Angeles for a period of two weeks.
While in high school, Jiang worked on the high school video news staff under the mentorship of her teacher Julia Conley. Later on, she graduated from the College of William & Mary with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and a minor in Chemistry.

As a student, Jiang worked on the student-run television station WMTV and credits the university for developing her curiosity. She went ahead to earn a Master’s in broadcast journalism from Syracuse University, graduating in 2006.
After completing her degree in broadcast journalism, from 2006 to 2008, she was a reporter for WBOC-TV, Salisbury, Md. She also worked at WJZ-TV, Baltimore from 2008 to 2012.
In late the same year, Jiang joined WCBS-TV, New York but left the station in 2015 after working as a general assignment reporter and fill-in anchor for 3 years. While there, she covered major stories such as the Boston Marathon bombings, the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings, and Hurricane Sandy.
In 2014, she was the Gala Dinner MC for the Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Gala Dinner which also featured letters of support for then-president Barack Obama, Andrew Cuomo, and Bill de Blasio. She was also recognized for her contributions to the field of communication. In 2015, Jiang was moved to Washington D.C. to become a correspondent for Newspath, the 24-hour newsgathering service for CBS News.
In 2018, she became a CBS News correspondent for the White House. This followed her coverage of Donald Trump’s G-7 Summit and the Trump administration’s zero-tolerance policy. In addition, Jiang has traveled with President Trump on many occasions, including on-board Air Force One, and has covered stories including President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s historic summit in Helsinki. She has also covered the Mueller Probe, the 2020 United States Presidential elections, and President Trump’s first and second impeachments.
Most notably, she is a member of the Asian American Journalists Association. Moreover, She continues to cover the White House as a senior White House Correspondent for CBS News during the Biden Administration.
