Yuki Tsunoda Biography
Yusi Tsunoda is a Japanese famous professional racing driver who is currently competing in Formula One for Scuderia AlphaTauri. In addition, he finished third in the 2020 Formula 2 Championship and made his Formula One debut in 2021 for AlphaTauri. Tsunoda is also a member of the Honda Formula Dream Project as well as the Red Bull Junior Team. Furthermore, he was born and raised in Sagamihara, Kanagawa, Japan.
Talking about his academic qualification, Yusi completed his high school study at a private school in his home town and thereafter he enrolled at LCA International Preschool. He graduated from the school in 2013 and later after attended Nihon University Third High School before later transferring to Wako High School. In 2019, Yusi joined the Faculty of Sport Management of Nippon Sport Science University. He began his professional karting career in 2010, by joining the JAF Junior Karting Championship. Later, he moved and joined the regional class and the national class.
Furthermore, Tsunoda also completed school at Suzuka Circuit Racing School in Honda where he advanced his formula classes. He also became a member of the Honda Formula Dream Project where he made his single-seater debut in the F4 Japanese Championship. In addition to that, Yusi won 10 races, and finished on the podium 18 times, with 12 pole positions and five fastest laps. He continued to compete in the Honda Formula Dream Project team and won seven awards with 14 points, ahead of Teppei Natori in second place.
Following his success, he managed to land a place on the Red Bull Junior Team and the Honda Formula Dream Project to drive in the new FIA F3 series in 2019. That same year, he also joined a prestigious Carlin team in the F2 series for the 2020 season. There he was able to deliver once again on his exceptional promise. He even brought home victories in Belgium, Bahrain, and at the UK’s 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, alongside regularly finishing on the podium.
Prior to that, he replaced Daniil Kvyat and partnered Pierre Gasly at AlphaTauri for the 2021 season. At the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, Tsunoda qualified 13th and become the second fastest in Q1. Later on, he appeared at the Spanish Grand Prix where he finished at the 16 position. After that, he was headed to reach Q3 for the first time at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Currently, he is competing for the AlphaTauri for the 2023 season, where he is partnered with Nyck de Vries as Gasly left for Alpine. This year, Yusi was able to finish 11th at the Bahrain Grand Prix, missing out on tenth to Alex Albon by a mere second. In addition to that, he was able to compete in various matches such as Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, Australian Grand Prix, and Azerbaijan Grand Prix among others.
