Joyce DeWitt is a renowned American actress famous for her role in the ABC series, Three’s Company. She became a household name when she played Janet Wood in the 1977-1984 ABC sitcom.
Joyce was born on April 23, 1949, in West Virginia, the United States. She had a love for the stage, attending acting lessons during her 0 level. Moreover, she majored in Theatre in college and later had her first stage appearance when she was 13 years of age.
After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in acting from Ball State University, she later enrolled for a master’s degree at the University of California. She soon began auditioning for acting roles, where she first landed herself in the 1977 film, Baretta. This role lasted for seven years and later led her to become a renowned celebrity actor.
It has been widely rumored that Joyce was mentored by Abe Vigoda. However, this has always been wrong. Abe and DeWitt just met when Joyce was performing in summer stock a year after her graduation. After Three’s Company came to an end in 1984, Joyce featured in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984 after which she quit. She continued acting with a section in a series, Noises Off at Michigan’s Cherry County Playhouse in June 1991.
