Lesli Foster Biography
Lesli Foster is an American Award-Winning journalist who is currently a weeknight anchor for the WUSA9 evening broadcast Monday through Friday. Foster is also part of the station’s Special Assignment Unit. She joined WUSA9 in 2001 and has since covered major events across the area.
Originally from Lansing Michigan, Foster attended and graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism. A member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Foster is famous for her warmth and ability to share stories that have an impact on the community.
She began her career as a weekend anchor and reporter for WEYI-TV NBC affiliate, in Michigan. Prior to joining WUSA9, she worked as a reporter for WBAL-TV in Baltimore. While here, Baltimore’s City Paper named her Best TV News Personality.
Foster’s career has been recognized with several awards and nominations. She received an Emmy Award for Best News Anchor in the Washington market in 2012 and has been nominated for Best Anchor for three consecutive years since 2010.
In addition, she earned more Emmys for reporting on a series on the 40th Anniversary of the March on Washington, and the Jeep Gas Tank Fires. Switching to Edward R. Murrow awards, Foster received two Edward R, Murroe Awards for stories on the case that helped to coin the term “carjacking” about the case of Dr. Pamela Basu.
Furthermore, Foster won three Associated Press Awards for a series on Jeep Gas Tank Fires, a series on HIV/AIDS, and the “Down Low”. To sum it all up, Foster has received a total of 14 awards, 9 Emmys, 2 Edward R. Murrow, and 3 Associated Press Awards.

Lesli Foster Surgery
During the December holidays of 2021, Foster left her role in WUSA9 to receive surgery that was scheduled to take two weeks. She has several fractures in her left ankle that needed to be fixed and required a bone graft, and time to recover. In addition, she lost balance while trying to take a selfie of her adorable pup, and fell fracturing her wrist.
This unexpected injury meant another surgery before her ankle surgery. Foster was to return to the office in February 2022. Fortunately, the surgeries went well and she resumed her roles as planned and is currently in perfect condition.
