Alex Cullen Biography
Alex Cullen is a well-known Australian journalist and TV presenter. Currently, he works at Nine Network’s breakfast program Today as a sports presenter. Cullen was born in Dubbo, New South Wales although raised in Coonamble. He completed his high school education at Coonamble High School and later enrolled at Saint Ignatius’ College, Riverview.
Thereafter, Alex attended Charles Sturt University where he graduated with a degree in Journalism. Shortly after University, he was hired at Prime News in Wagga Wagga as a reporter. Before joining GWN7 Network, Cullen worked as a reporter for Golden West News in Kalgoorlie.
In 2006, he become a team member of Seven News in Perth. There he served as a general reporter for a few months before moving and joining Sunrise. Moreover, he also returned back to Seven News and worked as a general reporter again. At Seven News, he made highlights when he covered news such as the Melbourne Cup, and the inspiring story of Jane McGrath.
His career turns in 2009 after landing a position as a sports presenter in Today Tonight. There he worked together with news veteran Ian Ross and later, Chris Bath. Besides that, he also worked with other channels such as ABC Local Radio, 2BS, B-Rock FM, and 2GB.In 2010, Alex was promoted to work at Seven Sunday Night programs, with Tony Squires replacing him as a weeknight sports presenter on Seven News Sydney.
Later on, he joined the Nine Network after the Seven Network axed Sunday Night. At the end of 2019, Cullen becomes a team member of the Today show as a sports presenter, after replacing Tony Jones. As of 2023, Alex was replaced by Brooke Boney as news presenter on Today taking on news and entertainment while he focused on sport.
