Aaron Brackett Biography
Aaron Brackett is an American meteorologist who is currently working for NewsChannel 4 in Oklahoma City since September 2013. He comes to NewsChannel 4 from KGUN in Tucson, AZ, and WREX in his hometown of Rockford IL.
After graduating high school, he decided to follow his lifelong passion for the weather by attending Valparaiso University in Indiana where he pursued his degree in Meteorology, During his time here, he became the Director of the university’s Storm Intercept Team and Participated in three 11-day storm chases on the Great Plains. In addition, he spent time interning with WGN’s Tom Skilling in Chicago gaining valuable forecasting experience.
While still at the university, he worked as an on-air personality and mentor for the inaugural year of VUTV. He also earned national recognition on MSNBC for his coverage of a rare January EF-3 tornado that devastated northern Illinois in 2008. Most notably, he got his first job while still in his senior year at Valpo, commuting three hours each way to give the weather to his hometown on NBC affiliate WREX. He was later promoted to weekday morning meteorologist.
In 2011, he received an Illinois Broadcasters Association Silver Dome Award for his coverage of a high and EF-2 tornado that ripped through Caledonia, IL. In addition, he was the first on the scene and the only meteorologist streaming live for nearly two hours. He moved to Tucson in the same year. At KGUN they forecasted anything from recorded Monsoon rain to blizzards.
