Adriana Diaz Biography
Adriana Diaz is an American national correspondent for CBS News based in Chicago since joining the station in 2012. She is the anchor of the Saturday edition of the “CBS Weekend News,” which broadcasts from CBS News’ Chicago Bureau located on the CBS-owned-and-operated station WBBM-TV.
Diaz attended Stuyvesant High School. She was also Miss New York USA 2006 and Miss New York Teen USA 2003. Later on, she attended Princeton University, majoring in public and international affairs. She then earned a master’s degree in public affairs and public administration in a dual degree program at Columbia University and France’s Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Science Po).
Prior to joining CBS News, she reported for Channel One News and hosted Yahoo’s “Trending Now” web show. Before journalism, Diaz was a financial analyst at Goldman Sachs.
As a CBS Newspath correspondent, she covered Pope Francis’ visits to Brazil in 2013, Israel and Palestine in 2014, Cuba in 2015, and Mexico in 2016. Adriana was also part of the first team dispatched to Havana for the normalization of relations with the U.S. in December 2014 and covered the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.
She was previously CBS News’ Asia correspondent based in Beijing, where she used her Mandarin skills to report from China on U.S.-Chinese relations, Chinese politics, science, and culture. She reported from inside North Korea twice, documenting the country’s political pageantry and isolation. Adiana’s Asia assignments also took her to the Korean Demilitarized Zone, South Korea, Japan, and Laos.
Recently, she reported from inside COVID-19 wards where she interviewed patients and frontline workers in Wisconsin’s largest hospital. Adriana and her colleagues have also covered the pandemic’s disproportionate effect on minorities. She has reported on Chicago gun violence, the Flint water crisis, and from Mexico, reporting on the caravans of migrants traveling by foot to the United States. Currently, she is on the board of the Harmony Program, which provides music education to New York City students in underserved communities.
