Akbar Gbajabiamila Biography
Akbar Gbajabiamila is an American journalist and former American Football player in the NFL who is currently working as a commentator on the American Ninja Warrior television series on NBC and sports analyst for the NFL Network. He is also a co-host of The Talk on CBS. Akbar is also a writer and he released his first book, Everyone Can Be a Ninja on May 7, 2019.
He attended Crenshaw High School in South Los Angeles, where he was a star basketball player. Akbar and his teammates won back-to-back City and State Championships in 1996 and 1997. However, he moved to football during his senior year.
He received scholarship offers as a senior from Oregon University, the University of California, Berkeley, San Diego State, and many other Universities. In the end of it, he chose to go to San Diego State University, where his elder brother was. He graduated with a degree in communication and new media studies.
Prior to starting his professional career, he played college football at San Diego State University. Akbar was signed by the Oakland Raiders as an undrafted free agent in 2003. As a free agent, he also played for San Diego Chargers and Miami Dolphins.
With his playing career over, he turned his focus to the broadcast in addition to his philanthropic work. He started off by serving as an analyst for the Mtn. Network and CBS Sports Network for two years. In this period, Akbar also took voice and acting classes.
He joined NFL Network as a member of the NFL Fantasy Live cast of hosts in 2012. In 2013, he became a co-host alongside Matt Iseman for American Ninja Warrior. It was announced on September 2, 2021, that he would join The Talk as a permanent co-host.
