Alden German Biography
Alden German is an American meteorologist who is currently working as a meteorologist at WHAS11 since joining the station in October 2019. Growing up, he was afraid of thunderstorms but loved snow, because, during the outbreak of tornadoes in 2003, a tornado ripped through Kansas City where his home was located. Fortunately, his house was spared nut this solidified his fear of storms.
He gradually realized that these people on TV seemed to know what was going to happen in the near future and this influenced his passion to be a meteorologist. Following this, he began watching the news to see what the weather would be and that raised his interest in broadcasting as well.
He is a proud graduate of the University of Kansas where he graduated with a Minor in Journalism and a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Science. While at the university, he assisted in building a weather department for KUJH-TV, a student-run television station. In addition, he got a chance to do and fill in forecasts for a hyper-local cable station, which served Lawrence and the nearby minor towns.
Following his graduation, he moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where he worked for two years and a half for an ABC-affiliate television station, KLKN. He held the positions of a reporter and a meteorologist. His stay here lead to him experiencing some devastating weather, such as the flooding of March 2019 and one of the snowiest winters on record which covered firsthand.
When off his duties, he likes reading and going for runs. He can also be found working on his body fitness at the gym or exploring Kentucky.
