Alistair Petrie Biography
Alistair Petrie is a British actor who starred in The Bank Job (2008), Cloud Atlas (2012), Rush(2013), and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016). He also starred in Utpioa, The Night Manager, Sherlock, and Undercover. Recently, he was cast as Mr. Groff in the Netflix series Sex Education.
Born in Catterick, North Riding of Yorkshire, he was raised in the Middle East, mainland Europe, and East Africa. Petrie trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. He then spent his early career in theatre around the country before joining the RSC.
In 2005, he joined the National Theatre, where he stayed for about 28 months performing in His Dark Materials. Later in 2008, he played the lead role of Man in Mine and shared Experience at the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Leeds. He played Heaton in The Duchess (2008).
In television, he portrayed Geoff in Utopia and later played the role of Major Shelton in the second episode of Season 3 of the BBC TV series Sherlock which aired on January 5, 2014. He went on to play Dr. Stephen in The Terror in 2018 and was cast as Mr. Groff in the 2019 Netflix comedy-drama series Sex Education.
