Andrew Weissmann Biography
Andrew Weissmann is a renowned American attorney who served as the chief of the criminal fraud section of the U.S. Department of Justice starting 2015. In June 2017, Andrew was appointed to a management role on the 2017 special counsel team headed by Robert Mueller.
To assume the new role, Weissmann took a leave from his Department of Justice criminal section post. After the special counsel’s investigation was concluded in 2019, Andrew joined the private sector.
Andrew is a proud graduate of Princeton University where he received a Bachelor’s degree in 1980. He then secured a Fulbright scholarship to the University of Geneva, where he attended and graduated from Columbia Law School (1984). Weissmann then clerked for Judge Eugene Nickerson in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.

Weissmann was born and raised in New York City and Woods Hole, Massachusetts by his parents Ann and Gerald Weissmann. He has a younger sister Lisa Weissman, with whom he shared his best childhood memories.

Weissmann started his career as an Assistant U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York in 1991 and worked up to 2002. Between 2002 and 2005, he served as deputy director appointed by George W.Bush and then appointed as the director of the task force investigating the Enron scandal.
Andrew prosecuted 30 people for perjury, fraud, and obstruction including three of Enron’s top executives, Andrew Fastow, Kenneth Lay, and Jeffrey Skilling. In 2015, he began working as a special counsel with Mueller. Andrew then headed to the private sector at Jenner & Block in New York. In 2011, Weissmann worked as a General Counsel under Mueller. He spent two years as the chief of the criminal fraud section at the Department of Justice.
On June 19, 2017, Andrew led the special counsel Mueller’s team to investigate Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections. In addition, he joined the MNSNBC as a legal analyst and taught at NYU School of Law, Fordham Law School, and Brooklyn Law School.
Currently, Andrew works for Jenner & Block as co-chair of its investigations, compliance, and defense practice. On September 29, 2020, Weissmann released his book Where Law Ends: Inside the Mueller Investigation.
