April Ryan Biography

April Ryan is a veteran American reporter, author, and White House Correspondent for The Grio. Starting January 1997 to November 2020, April served as a White House correspondent and Washington, D.C., bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks. In 2017, Ryan joined CNN as a political analyst.

Ryan began her career as a Jazz disc jockey before turning to report. She worked for various radio stations in the northeast and southeastern parts of the United States before working for the White House press corps. Notably, she worked for Morgan State University radio station WEAA-FM and WXYZ-FM in Baltimore, Maryland, serving as its news director.

She has been a member of the White House Press Corps for 23 years where she worked as a reporter. In addition, she branded a boutique radio company, American Urban Radio Networks from January 1997 to November 2020.

Currently, she is a member of the National Press Club, The Gridiron, as well as one of three African-Americans to have served on the board of the White House Correspondent’s Association. as a White House Correspondent, April covered four presidential administrations.

Seen the success of the latter, Ryan published her third book, Under Fire: Reporting from the Front Lines of the Trump White House in 2018.

As a member of the National Press Club, Ryan has been featured on MSNBC, NBC, and News One. In 2014, she was named an American Swiss Foundation Young Leader. In addition, Politico named her as one of the top 50 on the watch list in Washington D.C.

For her excellent work, April won the Journalist of the Year Award from the National Association of Black Journalists in 2017. Moreover, She was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Claflin University.
