Damon started her work at CameraPlanet, a renowned supplier of media content for television newscasts, working to get correspondent Peter Arnett’s team into pre-war Iraq. For three consecutive years, she worked in the Middle East as a freelance producer for CNN, CNN International, PBS, Fox News, and other broadcast stations. She also worked in a New York-based Turkish textile company.
In February 2006, Arwa joined CNN in its Baghdad headquarters and was based in Iraq for seven consecutive years. During her stay, she covered several notable stories such as the battle of Fallujah, the execution of Saddam Hussein, the first national election of Iraq, and the collapse of the Ba’ath regime.
In 2010, Arwa covered the Arab Spring, the uprising in Libya, and Egypt. Later in 2012, she is noted as one of the first journalists to arrive at the scene of the Benghazi attack, reporting its current scene and its aftermath.
Damon covered a personal diary of slain Ambassador Christoper Stevens from the scene which further laid light on the truth of the attack. She later traveled to West Africa to follow the pursuit of Boko Haram, a group that kidnapped more than 200 Nigerian girls from their school in Chibok.
In 2019, Damon traveled to Kathmandu in Nepal to report on a spike in facilities among Mount Everest climbers. Later on, Damon traveled with Greenpeace to the Arctic. She reported on the significant loss of ice at the poles and its role in the whole ecosystem of the earth.
