Ashlei King Biography
Ashlei King is an American journalist currently working as a co-anchor of the FOX16 Good Day morning program since joining the station in July of 2018.
King is a native of San Antonio, Texas, and she comes to Arkansas, her hometown, where she spent four years at KABB FOX 29. While there, Ashlei was nominated for an Emmy for her work on a documentary spotlighting the city’s Martin Luther King Jr. March, which is the biggest in the country. Moreover, the documentary also won her a National Association of Black Journalists award.
Regarding her education, Ashlei attended the University of Texas at Austin, where she received her Bachelor of Journalism degree. During her freshman year at the university, she was a member of the co-ed cheerleading squad. King cheered for the Texas Longhorns football team as well as the men’s basketball team. In addition, King also ran hurdles for two years on the UT Track & Field team.
Ashlei’s broadcasting career kicked off in Austin, where she worked as the CBS affiliate UT reporter. Similarly, she was also the Assistant News Director for Texas Student Television’s KVR News.
After graduation, Ashlei worked for KTXS in Abilene. During her time in Abilene, King won a Texas Associated Press Award for her deadline editing. She also worked for two years in Tulsa, Oklahoma, working for the CBS affiliate. While in Tulsa, Ashlei covered various stories, ranging from tornadoes to destructive wildfires that burned many homes. Her most notable moment was when she did a live interview on CNN with Don Lemon about a racially motivated shooting spree in Tulsa.
King is an active member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
When she is not working, Ashlei enjoys hanging out with her family, eating at hole-in-the-wall restaurants, as well as working off the calories at the gym.
