Chloe Auliʻi Cravalho is an American actress and singer who made her acting debut as the voice of the titular character in the 2016 Disney 3D computer-animated musical feature film Moana. In addition, she also appeared in NBC drama series such as Rise (2018), the Netflix drama film All Together Now (2020), and the Hulu romantic comedy Crush (2022). Recently, Cravalho was seen in the TV drama series “The Power” as Jos Cleary-Lopez and in the movie “Sorta Like a Rock Star”

Cravalho was born in Kohala, Hawaii, United States. During the time she made her breakthrough, she was living in Mililani, Hawaii, with her mother and was in her freshman year of high school, singing soprano in the glee club at Kamehameha Schools’ Kapālama campus. In June 2021, Cravalho announced that she had been accepted into Columbia University and subsequently revealed that she planned to major in environmental science at the school.

Cravalho landed the title role of Moana, a teenage Polynesian princess, at the age of 14. She said when she auditioned there were huge volumes of submissions that were already made by hundreds of girls, over ‘YouTube.’ Nevertheless, she was spotted by an Oahu talent agent during a charity competition, and the agent ultimately convinced her to go for the audition. The filmmakers took auditions of hundreds of candidates from across the Pacific Islands and then finalized Auliʻi for the role.

The film was released in November 2016 to much critical acclaim. Featured in the film was the Lin-Manuel Miranda song “How Far I’ll Go,” which Cravalho sang and took home the Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media. In 2017, Cravalho and Miranda performed the song together at the Academy Awards ceremony, where it had been nominated for Best Original Song. That same year, she released a single version of “How Far I’ll Go” backed by the B-side “You’re Welcome.”

In February 2017, it was announced that Cravalho had been cast in the pilot for the NBC drama Rise, which was ordered into a series on May 4, 2017. The series premiered on March 13, 2018, but NBC canceled the series on May 15, 2018, due to low ratings. Additionally, in the same year, Cravalho announced she was going to reprise her role as Moana in the first Hawaiian-language dubbed Disney film. The dubbed Moana premiered on June 10, 2018.

Furthermore, Cravalho also portrayed Ariel in ABC’s The Little Mermaid Live!, a live-action concert rendition of The Little Mermaid. In 2020, she starred in All Together Now, directed by Brett Haley for Netflix.
