Barbara Gibbs is a veteran American journalist, television host, and news anchor who is currently working as a morning and noon co-anchor at WTVD-TV ABC 11 Eyewitness News in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina. Gibbs works alongside Anchor John Cark Amber Rupinta and ABC11 AccuWeather Meteorologist Don Schwenneker.
Barbara is from Memphis, Tennessee. However, her family moved around a lot before settling in mobile Alabama where she considers home. Gibbs attended Auburn University in Alabama and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and a minor in sociology.
Gibbs worked as a morning anchor and reporter for WTVQ in Lexington, Kentucky. Afterward, Barbara moved to Roanoke, Virginia where she worked for WSLS-TV as a co-anchor of the 6 and 11 newscasts on Channel 10. She spent two years at the station and was immensely popular at the station before she made an abrupt departure.
In 2001, Barbara relocated to North Carolina to start work at ABC 11 Eyewitness News. Currently, she is a co-anchor of the morning and noon newscasts alongside Anchor John Clark, Amber Rupinta, and ABC11 AccuWeather Meteorologist Don Schwenneker.
Barbara has a passion for telling stories about the positive power of the human spirit. In 2008, she won an Emmy Award for a feature story for Homeless Singers. This is a piece about three homeless men in Raleigh with a deep call to becoming gospel artists. Similarly, Gibbs received an Emmy nomination for a second feature “Barbara Gibbs’ Little Valentine,” a story about a young boy in Spring Lake, NC, who touched her heart on Valentine’s Day.

Barbara also had the honor of telling a soldier’s story; local veterans in the homebuilding industry built a house for free for a triple amputee Iraq war soldier and his wife.
