Bret Baier Biography
Bret Baier is an American journalist currently the host of Special Report with Bret Baier on the Fox News Channel and the chief political correspondent for Fox. Before that, he worked as the network’s Chief White House Correspondent and Pentagon correspondent.
Born and raised Catholic, Bret attended Marist School, a private Roman Catholic high school in Atlanta Georgia, later graduated in 1988. He then attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, graduating in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and English. At the University, Baier became a member of the Xi Chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity.
He started his career with a WREX-TV (NBC 13) in Rockford, Illinois, before joining WRAL-TV, then a CBS affiliate in Raleigh, North Carolina. He also worked for WJWJ-TV (PBS 2) in Beaufort, SC. Bret sent an audition page to FOX News in 1988 where he got hired as the network’s Atlanta Bureau Chief.
Additionally, he is the recipient of the 2017 Sol Taishoff Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism, the National Press Foundation’s highest honor for a broadcast journalist.

Bret currently serves as FOX News Channel’s chief political anchor as well as the anchor of “Special Report with Bret Baier”. He is currently based in Washington, D.C., however, he joined the network in 1998 as the first reporter in the Atlanta bureau.
Baier, Kelly, and Chris Wallace anchored three GOP debates for Fox News Channel in 2016 with a record of 24 million viewers in one of their debates in Cleveland Ohio.
