Brian Carlson is an American Emmy award-winning journalist, co-anchor, and reporter who is currently anchoring Good Morning and Midday Utah newscast which airs on ABC4 in Utah. Carlson practiced his first on-air job while at school where he used to anchor a weekly show at a Salt Lake station and he enjoyed it. He followed his passion which led him to Brigham Young University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism.
His first job was at KNDU in Kennewick, Washington where he was the first reporter in 2004 to cover the story of Ron Stallworth, a young black detective who infiltered the KKK. This report became the motivation for the Oscar award-winning film “BlacKkKlansman” which was directed by Spikes Lee.
In 2012, he bought drugs secretively and was instrumental in helping police capture an illegal drug dealer. This made him awarded a regional Emmy award for his coverage which was titled Spice in the City.
