Cameron Williams Biography
Cameron Williams is an Australian television journalist and presenter with the Nine Network. Williams also presents updates and does roving reporting at the Australian Open for the network’s coverage. Previously, he was working as a sports presenter on Nine News Sidney from Sunday to Thursday, co-hosted Weekend Today, and has been a sports presenter on Today.
Cameron started his career in 1984 with a cadetship at The Courier-Mail newspaper in Brisbane. He then moved to The Australian offices in Melbourne, where he wrote features and columns before joining the Seven Network in 1988. In addition to his role as a sports presenter on Seven News, Cameron occasionally hosted Sportsworld.
Williams worked as a presenter for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, where he called Matt Ryan’s equestrian double gold for Australia. Late in 1996, he signed as the face of Fox Sports, anchoring NRL On Fox, Dally M Awards, Super 12 Rugby, Wimbledon, Winter Olympics, the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix, and Fox Sports News.
His next move saw him land a job as a breakfast announcer at 2HD in Newcastle. He also owns a Newcastle modeling and talent agency, Models and Actors. Between January 2006 and December 2010, William served as the official sports editor/presenter on the Nine Network’s breakfast program.Moreover, he occasionally presents the Nine Network’s coverage of horse racing, swimming, and other sporting events.
In December 2007 and early January 2008, Cameron hosted alongside Lisa Wilkinson for 2 Weeks while Karl Stefanovic was on holiday. In January 2009, it was announced that Williams would co-host Weekend Today alongside Leila McKinnon and news presenter Amber Sherlock. The program launched in February to counteract Weekend Sunrise and has since extended to Saturday mornings.
In 2010, Williams joined Nine News Sydney as a sports presenter on Fridays and Saturdays. Cameron was succeeded on Today by Ben Fordham, who will focus on Weekend Today in January 2011.
From 2013 to 2015, Cameron hosted Nine’s coverage of Friday Night Football. He also hosted the network’s 2015 Rugby World Cup coverage. In February 2016, Williams announced his departure from the Nine Network. Following the retirement of veteran sports broadcaster Ken Sutcliffe, he returned to the Nine Network as a sports editor on Nine News Sydney in December 2016.
In March 2022, Cameron announced his resignation from the Nine Network so he can focus on his health and pursue other opportunities.
