Carter Oosterhouse is a popular American television personality and former model who was born on Sept. 19, 1976, in Traverse City, Michigan. He rose to fame as a carpenter on the TLC series Trading Spaces and has hosted various home improvement and how-to television shows. Oosterhouse was the host of three HGTV network shows Red Hot & Green, Carter Can, and Million Dollar Rooms in 2008.

Carter started his career as a carpenter at the age of twelve, he began learning carpentry as an apprentice to his neighbor, a carpenter. He continued working in carpentry and construction throughout school following in the footsteps of his older brothers, Tyler and Todd, who are also carpenters.

Regarding his schooling, Oosterhouse attended the Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools. Later on, he received a B.A. in nutrition and communication from Central Michigan University.

After college, Carter moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in film and television. While there, he worked as a production assistant and tape coordinator behind-the-scenes for Project Greenlight. Moreover, while auditioning for a new show on TLC, Carter got a part in the show Trading Spaces and joined the cast in their 4th season.

A second show was added to the HGTV network in early 2008, Red Hot & Green, with Nicole Facciuto, on which Carter promotes eco-friendly materials for earth-friendly living. Furthermore, Carter hosted the 2012 HGTV network show “Million Dollar Rooms”, showing the high and lavish features of some of the most detailed built homes.

In 2015, Ososterhouse started hosting the ABC reality show “The Great Christmas Light Fight” alongside Taniya Nayak. He returned for subsequent holiday seasons from 2016 to 2021.

The kids then have the chance to participate actively in building up the community. They use, share, and care for these public areas. Carter in 2011 collaborated with Rebuilding Together to build 6 playgrounds to promote the health and well-being of children in low-income communities.
