Cecily Tynan Biography
Cecily Tynan is a renowned American television meteorologist who is currently the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. weathercaster and chief meteorologist at WPVI. She has been working for the station since 1995. Cecily formerly hosted the Saturday evening public affairs program Primetime Weekend, a show that was replaced by FYI Philly.
After graduating from high school, Tynan enrolled at Washington and Lee University. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate with a degree in journalism and politics as a major. In addition, it has completed meteorological courses and thus has a television seal number, i.e., 1099, from the American Meteorological Society.

After graduating from Washington and Lee University, Tynan began working as a weekend weather anchor and general reporter for WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia. Later she signed with KTNV and worked as the news anchor for “Good Morning Las Vegas.” After that, she was hired by WPVI in 1995. Initially, she worked as a weather correspondent for the weekend and as a general reporter. Gradually, she was promoted to the Weathercaster on the weekday morning.
By 2003, Tynan also began broadcasting at 5:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. on weekdays. However, she was widely known when she succeeded Lisa Thomas-Laury as co-host of many locally produced specials, including the 6ABC Dunkin’s Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade, the 4th of July Parade, Philly on Wheels, and the Flower Show.
Besides being a distinguished meteorologist, Tynan is also a triathlete. She’s a four-time sub-3 hour marathoner and a former world-class professional duathlete. She was also the top ten age group finisher at the 2003 Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. In 2001, Runner’s World Magazine also featured Tynan on the cover page of the February issue.
