Charlie Dimmock Biography

Charlie Dimmock is a renowned English gardening expert and television presenter. She was a member of the team on Ground Force, a BBC gardening makeover program, which aired from 1997 through 2005.

Since then, Charlie has hosted numerous television shows in the United Kingdom and the United States including The Joy of Gardening, Charlie’s Garden Army, and most recently Garden Rescue.

Charlie attended Wellow Primary School and the Mountbatten School in Romsey, Hampshire. Her love for gardening started at an early age where she enjoyed spending time in the garden as a child. She also helped her grandfather in his vegetable patch. During her junior school years, Dimmock had gardening lessons through the spring and summer terms.

As a teenager, Charlie anded a weekend and holiday job at a local garden center Mill Water Gardens in Romsey. At school. Dimmock initially planned to specialize in forensic science, but changed her mind and studied horticulture. She then trained as an amenity horticulturalists at Winchester and Somerset.

Eventually, Charlie graduated with a BTEC Diploma in Amenity Horticulture, attaining a distinction, and a National Technical Certificate in Turf Culture and Sporting Management. She further spent a year of this training at the Chelsea Physics Garden in London. After college, Charlie joined Romsey Garden Centre where she met television producer John Thornicroft, who later produced Ground Force.

Dimmock first came to the limelight in 1997, when she joined the BBC gardening series, Ground Force. She co-presented Ground Force for the eight years it aired. Since then, Charlie has presented various programs such as The Joy of Gardening and Charlie’s Garden Army, as well as presenting coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show.

She later appeared in the Channel 4 reality TV show, The Games in 2004. In addition, she appeared on American television, presenting a gardening slot on The Early Show on CBS. Similarly, Charlie appeared on the BBC’s Celebrity MasterChef in September 2006.

After Ground Forced ceased production in the mid-2000s, Charlie presented a local ITV Meridian series entitled River Walks, in which she walked along various rivers in Southern England, visiting landmarks and attractions along the way as well as meeting people who live and work on the rivers.

Between 2003 and 2004, Dimmock was President of the Television and Radio Industries Club and presented their annual awards ceremony that year. In 2011, Charlie joined the team of experts on ITV’s Daybreak breakfast magazine show acting as a gardening expert. Later in 2013, Dimmock presented an episode of The Great British Garden Revival.

In July 2016, Dimmock became a member of the team presenting Garden Rescue, a series on garden transformations produced for the BBC by Spun Gold TV.
