Clay Ostarly Biography
Clay Ostarly is an American Associated Press award-winning NWA Certified Meteorologist and is presently working as a midday meteorologist and morning traffic reporter at WOWT NBC Omaha. In March of 2019, he joined WOWT’s First Alert Weather Team.
Ostarly grew up in New Orleans and spent much of his career in Roanoke. In 2011, he earned a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric sciences from the University of Louisiana at Monroe. While at the institution, he worked as an intern, a weekend meteorologist, and a multimedia journalist for KNOE 8 News, a dual-affiliated CBS/ABC TV station.
Before joining WOWT, Clay worked as a weekend meteorologist at WFXR-TV, a Fox-affiliated television station in Roanoke, Virginia, from February 2017 to March 2019. He also worked as a weekend meteorologist for KSLA News 12 from May 2013 to June 2016.
Furthermore, Ostar’s interest in weather began while he was a toddler, on May 8, 1995. A powerful rainstorm that swept across South Louisiana dumped nearly 20 inches of rain in less than 48 hours, causing major flooding in Clay’s hometown.
When Clay was five years old, he was terrified of the weather. However, it was because of the flood that he began to obsessively monitor the Weather Channel. Because he was no longer scared, he learned more about the weather and eventually became a meteorologist.
