Connie Inge-Lise Nielsen is a Danish actress who is best known for his role in the movies such as Gladiator, The Devil’s Advocate, and Wonder Woman. Nielsen is also the founder of The Human Needs Project and The Road To Freedom Scholarships. Additionally, she has been awarded several awards including Best Actress Award for her role in the drama Brødre and Best Actress at the European Film Awards.
Nielsen was born in Frederikshavn and brought up in the village of Elling. Her career began as a teenager when she was featured alongside her mother in local sketch comedies and variety shows. At the age of 18, she went to Paris to pursue an acting and modeling career. Later after, she moved to Italy and attended the drama school in Rome and in master classes at Piccolo Teatro in Milan with Lydia Styx.
Connie made her debut in 1984 in a French comedy film, Par où t’es rentré? On t’a pas vu sortir and later co-starred with the King of Comedy, Jerry Lewis. Aside from that, she also appeared in several comedies such as Vacanze di Natale ’91, Le Paradis Absolument, and Colletti Bianchi. A year later, Nielsen starred as Lena in a family drama series Okavango: The Wild Frontier where. Moreover, she also appeared in other films like Permanent Midnight, Rushmore, and Soldier. She became recognized for appearing as Lucilla in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator, starring opposite Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix. Thereafter, she was cast in American films such as One Hour Photo, The Hunted, and Mission to Mars. In 2002, Nielsen starred in Olivier Assayas’s film Demonlover and A Shine of Rainbows film.
Besides that, she won the Danish Best Actress Award for her role in the drama Brødre also known as Brothers. Also, Connie won the Best Actress award at the San Sebastian International Film Festival and was nominated for Best Actress at the European Film Awards. In 2006, she portrayed Detective Dani Beck in several episodes of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.
