David Aldridge Biography

David Aldridge is a well-known American sports journalist who currently works for The Athletic as a writer. Aldridge previously worked as a reporter for Turner Sports, where he contributed to their NBA and MLB coverage.

ESPN, NBA.com, NBA TV, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The Washington Post, and TBD are among the other publications for which David has written and contributed. In addition, the Basketball Hall of Fame presented David with the Curt Gowdy Media Award in 2016.

Andridge went to DeMatha Catholic High School for his studies. He went on to American University, where he received his schooling. David was a journalist for The Washington Post for nine years. Furthermore, Aldridge was a beat reporter for Georgetown basketball, the Washington Redskins, and the Washington Bullets at the time.

David also covered the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, the Super Bowl, the World Series national college basketball and football, the Stanley Cup playoffs, the U.S. Open tennis championships, and the Indianapolis 500. He is still a huge supporter of American University men’s basketball.

David worked for ESPN for eight years before joining TNT in 2014, largely covering the NBA but also doing some NFL coverage. He contributed to ESPN Radio and wrote for ESPN.com. Aldridge appeared on SportsCenter, NBA 2 Night (now NBA Fastbreak), and NBA Today on a regular basis.

David conducted conversations with Allen Iverson, Karl Malone, LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, and others for SportsCenter’s “Sunday Conversations.” In 2003 and 2004, he also worked as an NBA sideline reporter for both ABC and ESPN.

Aldridge also worked for the Philadelphia Inquirer from 2004 until 2008. As a reporter and columnist, he covered the National Football League and the National Basketball Association.

In 2005, David was a member of the Philadelphia Inquirer team that received a second-place prize from the Society of Professional Journalists, Greater Philadelphia Chapter for the series “The Future of Pro Sports.” He was supposed to be one of the dozens of people laid off from the newspaper in January 2007, but he was kept.

Similarly, during the regular season, All-Star Weekend, and the NBA playoffs, Aldridge worked as an “Insider” for TNT’s Inside the NBA and provided sideline reporting. He was also a commentator for other NBA on TNT segments and co-host of the weekly show The Beat on NBA TV.

David also served as a sideline reporter for college football games and Major League Baseball divisional series broadcasts on television. Moreover, he was a co-host of The Tony Kornheiser Show on Washington Post Radio and then WWWT in Washington, D.C. from February 2007 to June 2008. In September 2009, he reappeared as a guest co-host on WTEM’s latest incarnation. He has been a frequent co-host of the show since 2016.

Aldridge departed Turner Sports in late 2018 to work as a journalist for The Athletic.
