David Ignatius Biography

David Ignatius is an American journalist and novelist who is currently working as an associate editor and columnist for The Washington Post. Ignatius is a certified writer, and he has written eleven novels. One of his novels is The Body of Lies. On the other hand, he is a former adjunct lecturer at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. He is also a Senior Fellow in the Future of Diplomacy Program.

Ignatius attended St Albans School and later attended Harvard College, from which he graduated magna cum laude in the class of 1973. He was awarded a Frank Knox Fellowship by Harvard University. He studied at King’s College, where he received a diploma in economics.

After his education, he was an editor at the Washington Monthly before moving to The Wall Street Journal. He spent ten years as a reporter there. In the Journal, he first covered the steel industry in Pittsburgh. Later on, he moved to Washington, where he covered the Justice Department. He also covered the CIA and the Senate. Additionally, he was the Journal’s Middle East correspondent from 1980 through 1983. During this time, he covered the wars in Lebanon and Iraq.

Additionally, he returned to Washington in 1984. After his return, he became a chief diplomatic correspondent. In 1985, he received the Edward Weintal Prize for diplomatic reporting. However, he left the Journal in 1986 for The Washington Post. He was the editor of the “Outlook” section from 1986 to 1990. From 1990 to 1992 he was the foreign editor. He served as assistant managing editor in charge of business news from 1993 to 1999. Additionally, he began writing a twice-weekly column on global politics, economics, and international affairs in 1999.

In 2000, he became the executive editor of the International Herald Tribute. He returned to the Post in 2002. This was after the Post sold its interest in the Herald Tribute. He continued to write his column once a week during his tenure at the Herald Tribute. Most notably, his column is syndicated worldwide by The Washington Post Writers Group. Furthermore, the column won the 2000 Gerald Loeb Award.

His coverage of the CIA has been criticized as being defensive and overly positive. Additionally, he supported the 2003 US invasion of Iraq. On a number of occasions, however, he criticized the CIA and the US government’s approach to intelligence. He wrote a piece in the Washington Post on the crisis in Ukraine and how the world will deal with Putin’s actions. This was on March 26, 2014.
