David Yeomans Biography
David Yeomans is a two-time Award-winning Meteorologist currently serving as the weekday morning meteorologist for KXAN-TV in Austin, Texas. As early as fourth grade, David was already checking out stacks of meteorology books from the public library. He gathered as much knowledge as he could. A year after, he became a registered storm spotter while keeping climate records for the National Weather Service office.
He then enrolled in meteorology at the University of Miami. During the summer after his first year at Miami, he relocated to Austin to work as an Intern in the KXAn weather department. Moreover, he held internships at CBS4 Miami and Spectrum News in Austin.
After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, Yeomans helped rebuild the upper-Ninth Ward neighborhood with Habitat for Humanity. In this, he worked as an assistant carpenter.
In 2010, he went back to the University of Miami for graduate studies in meteorology. At this time, he was involved in campus broadcasting programs. Notably, David broadcast daily weather forecasts on WVUM radio, the then-ranked No. 1 college radio station by the MTV-U Woodie Awards. In yet another role, he served as the lead weather anchor for the campus TV station’s award-winning half-hour news show, Newsvision.

For his Masters’s thesis, David studied hurricane formation and was a guest scientist aboard the NOAA Hurricane Hunter flight. For three years, he was invited to present his research at the American Meteorological Society’s annual conventions, that is in 2012, 2013, and 2016.
Yeomans is a holder of the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society. Furthermore, he received a Lone Star Emmy Award for the First Warning Weather University series in 2019. Previously, he had won another Lone Star Emmy Award in 2015 for the First Warning Weather Team’s Summer Weather Outlook.
Adding to his accolades, David was awarded First Place Weathercast in 2016 by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters. Another significant award for him was the Television On-Air Personality of the Year in 2018 by the Alliance for Women in Media.
At his hometown, Austin, David also serves on the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center Advisory Council. During his free time, he likes to wake up surfing on Lake Austin and mountain biking in the Greenbelt.
