Houston co-anchors WNYT Channel 13 Live at 5 and 5:30. Her stories have taken her to Washington, DC in 2017 to cover the inauguration of President, Donald Trump. In the same year, Elaine was in Washington, DC to cover the hundreds of thousands of women who rallied in the nation’s capital for the Women’s March on Washington in opposition to the proposals of President Donald Trump. She also covered candidate Trump in New York City on election eve in November 2016.

In 2004, Elaine traveled to Oklahoma to cover tornado damage as well as Sen.John Kerry’s bid for the White House. In 1999, she traveled to Cuba to cover the protracted conflict over little Elian Gonzalez, as well as a day in the life of Havana’s Cuban citizens.

Houston not only highlights women’s stories but also encourages and empowering women, especially those who are struggling with poverty or dealing with socio-economic issues. For her reporting in 2017, Houston won the 2017 New York State Broadcasters Association for coverage in her weekly series, Today’s Women. She is also a recipient of the SAANY’s award in 2009 for outstanding education stories and the PTA lifetime award in 2000.

In 2011, Elaine was recognized by WNYT with the Employee of the Month award for creating a company-wide lip dub video that was shown on television and later posted on the WNYT website and generating hundreds of hits. This was in addition to her Employee of the Month award for her work in Washington D.C.

For her community service, Houston was awarded the Community of Excellence Award by the College of Saint Rose for work in the community in 2017. She had also received the Distinguished Community Service Award from New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2012.
