Elie Honig is an American journalist who is currently working as a Legal Analyst for CNN and became famous for his lively debates on politics. Prior to this, he served as Director of the Department of Law and Public Safety, New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice. While there, he directed major criminal cases against street gangs, drug trafficking organizations, illegal firearms traffickers, corrupt public officials, child predators, and white-collar offenders.
Before joining the Division of Criminal Justice, he worked for eight years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. There, he successfully prosecuted more than 100 members and associates of La Cosa Nostra. In addition, he has tried 15 cases to jury verdict and has argued over 20 cases in the federal appellate courts and the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Furthermore, he served as Executive Director of the Rutgers Institute for Secure Communities at Rutgers University. Currently, he is CNN’s Senior Legal Analyst. He joined CNN in October 2018.
