Femi Abebefe Biography

Femi Abebefe is an American journalist who is currently serving as a sports anchor and reporter for KOMO News since August 2019. He is a graduate of Western Washington University where he graduated in the Fall of 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in communications. In addition, it was during his time in Bellingham that he learned that broadcast journalism would be his calling.

Following his graduation, he got his first job in September of 2013 at KTVZ-TV in Bend, Ore. In Bend, he got the opportunity to cover Pole Pedal Paddle, the Cascade Cycling Classic, the Oregon Ducks, and numerous successful high school sports teams.

In addition, he returned to the state of Washington in August of 2016 when he took a Sports Anchor and Reporter job at KHQ/SWX in Spokane. As a part of a six-person sports department, he reported, anchored, produced, and called play-by-play for a wide variety of Inland Northwest sporting events. As a westside, he quickly learned about the passion for sports on the other side of the mountains.

While at KHQ/SWX, Abebefe covered multiple NCAA tournament runs for the Gonzaga men’s and women’s basketball teams, Spokane Hoopfest, and more. He is now extremely excited to be back in the city he loves to cover professional sports. When off his duties, he loves hanging out with friends and family, going to the gym, or grabbing a beverage at the local pub to catch a game or two.
