Kris Gutierrez is an American journalist who is currently working as a news anchor and reporter at KPRC-TV, the NBC affiliate in Houston. In addition, he joined the station in March 2020 and joined Dominique Sachse, Chief Meteorologist Frank Billingsley, and Sports Director Randy McIlvot to anchor the station’s 6 and 10 pm newscasts.
Two months after joining the station, he anchored a newscast from a tornado-ravaged Runway Bay a story that hit the headlines. This broadcast earned him and the team an Emmy award for best newscast in the region.
Prior to joining his current station, he worked at NBC 5 in New York where he was an anchor. While there, he anchored the station 5 News at 5. In 2014, he and the morning team receives an Emmy for a newscast that he field anchored after a tornado touched down. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award as the best news anchor in the same year. In addition, he has worked at FOX News Channel in the Dallas bureau where he served as a national correspondent for 5 years.
While working there, he was the sole reporter responsible for all editorial content in the four-state region. He also reported live from Ft. Hood, less than 24 hours after the deadliest shooting rampage at a military institution. Following his education, he attended and graduated from Lewisville High School in Texas with a high school diploma. While in high school he played football for Fighting Farmers for four years. Later on, he moved to Texas Christian University where he graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Broadcast Journalism.
