Graham Linehan Biography
Graham Linehan is an Irish television writer and anti-transgender activist. He created the sitcoms Father Ted (1995–1998), Black Books (2000–2004), and The IT Crowd (2006–2013). In addition, Lineham has written for Count Arthur Strong, Brass Eye, and The Fast Show.
Graham became an anti-transgender activist after an episode of The It Crowd was criticized as transphobic. He argues that transgender activism endangers women and has even compared it to the use of puberty blockers to Nazi eugenics programs. In 2020, Lineham was suspended from Twitter for repeated violations of its policy terms. He further stated that his views have cost him a lot including losing his work and disrupting his marriage.

After joining Hot Press, he met Arthur Mathews. In their early work, the duo was responsible for segments in sketch shows like Alas Smith and Jones, Harry Enfield and Chums, The All New Alexei Sayle Show, The Day Today, and the Ted and Ralph characters in The Fast Show. They went on to produce Paris (one series, 1994), Father Ted (three series, 1995–1998), and the first series of the sketch show Big Train.
Graham has since written for other shows like Brass Eye. With Dylan Moran, he co-wrote the first series of Black Books, a series to which Mathews also contributed. He also contributed to Blue Jam and its television adaptation Jam. He wrote and directed the 2006 Channel 4 sitcom The It Crowd, in which he deviated from the recent British trend towards mock-documentary comedies.
In November 2008, Graham was awarded an International Emmy for The It Crowd. Later in 2013, he wrote and directed The Walshes. Furthermore, he co-wrote the first series of the BBC sitcom Motherland and directed its pilot episode. In 2018, Linehan and Mathews announced plans for a Father Ted musical. In 2021, Graham said that he was still working on the musical and that it would finish the series as planned before the demise of lead actor Dermot Morgan.
