Howard Alan Kurtz is a well-known American journalist and author who is currently working as the host of Fox News’s Media Buzz program and the successor to Fox News Watch. Formerly, he worked as the host of Cable News Network’s media analysis show Reliable Sources.
Kurtz was born in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. He graduates from Sheepshead Bay High School and later enrolled at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and English in 1974. In addition, he also attended the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. While at college he worked on a student newspaper, the Spectrum, and became the editor in his senior year.
Soon after he graduated, Howard started working for the Record in New Jersey. After working for a while, he moved to Washington D.C. to work as a reporter for syndicated columnist Jack Anderson. However, he left the station and join The Washington Star, where he was in charge of the afternoon paper. After the closing of the newspaper in 1981, Kurtz got a position at The Washington Post where he worked up to 2010 and then he moved. At The Washington Post, he was in charge of handling the national affairs correspondent, New York bureau chief, and deputy national editor.
Prior to joining Fox News in 2013, he worked for CNN as the host of the weekly program that explores the standards, performance, and biases of the media. Kurtz also leads the scrutinizing of the media’s fairness and objectivity by questioning journalists of top news organizations, including those at CNN. Apart from that, he also worked at The Daily Beast where he served as the Washington bureau chief for the website, writing on media and politics. His salary at The Daily Beast has been reported to be $600,000 a year.
At Fox, Kurtz works as an anchor hosting a program on weekends and also as a columnist for the FoxNews.com website. On the other hand, he is also the author of Media Madness: Donald Trump, The Press and The War Over the Truth, and five other books such as Inside the Clinton Propaganda Machine which reached No. 2 on the New York Times best-seller list, Spin Cycle, Media Circus, Hot Air, and The Fortune Tellers.
