John Dickerson Biography

John Dickerson is an American journalist currently working as a correspondent for CBS News 60 Minutes and CBS News Senior Political Analyst. Dickeson is also a contributing editor to The Atlantic the host of the Whistlestop podcast and co-host of the Slate Political Gabfest.

Dickerson previously co-anchored CBS This Morning alongside Norah O’Donnell and Gayle King. From 2015 to 2018, he anchored “Face The Nation”, and CBS News’ Chief Washington Correspondent. He also published his third book, the New York Times Best-Seller The Hardest Job in the World: The American Presidency.

John joined CBS News in April 2019, starting as an analyst and contributor. He worked for six years as the network’s Political Director and in the 2016 Presidential campaign, he moderated CBS News’ two presidential debates. At this time he was the host of ‘Face the Nation’.

In addition, Dickerson has interviewed a wide range of people including Apple CEO Tim Cook, actors Glenda Jackson and Christian Bale, author Tara Westover and musicians John Prine, Jon Batiste, and Dave Matthews.

Dickerson started working as a reporter in Washington in 1995, covering the White House Congress and economics. He then covered politics for 12 years for Time Magazine. During his last four years of service at Time Magazine, Dickerson was the magazine’s White House correspondent, covering the presidency of George W. Bush.

For ten years (2005-2015), John was Slate Magazine’s Chief Political correspondent winning the Ford Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency for a 2010 long-term series on risk profiled Secretary of Defense James Mattis. John also won the David Broder Award from the University of New Hampshire Law School.

A native Washingtonian, John graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a specialty in American studies from the University of Virginia. Despite his career as a correspondent, Dickerson is also the author of On Her Trail, and the New York Times best-seller Whistlestop: My Favorite Stories from Presidential Campaign History (Twelve Books).
