Jon Meacham Biography
Jon Meacham is an American Journalist, Writer, reviewer, historian, and presidential biographer who is currently the Historian of the Washington National Cathedral. He is also a contributing writer to The New York Times Book Review. He is a former executive editor, executive vice president at Random House, and former editor-in-chief of Newsweek.
Acertified author, he has written several books. Jon was the winner of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography for American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House. In relation to his education, he attended The McCallie School, where he developed an interest in the civil rights movement.
Later on, he attended Sewanee: The Univerity of the South. After a few years, he graduated summa cum laude in 1991 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English literature. He was even elected to Phi Beta Kappa at the University. In addition, he worked at The Chattanooga Times, until he moved to Washington in 1993 where he was a co-editor of Washington.
In 1995, Jon worked as the national affairs editor for Newsweek and later became its managing editor in 1998. He also became the editor-in-chief of Newsweek’s print and online formats in 2006.
Over the years, he has been a frequent guest on various talk shows such as Charlie Rose, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, and Real Time with Bill Maher. Recently he was chosen as Conon Historian of Washington National Cathedral in 2021.
