Juan Fernandez is an American journalist who is currently working as a news anchor at KCAL9 News (CBS2). He anchors on weekdays at 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Prior to this, he worked as a general assignment reporter at WSVN-7 and WLTV-23/Univision, and the Telemundo Network.
Juan attended Christopher Columbus High School. He then attended and graduated from Miami Dade College. In addition, he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and Broadcast Journalism from Florida International University.
Prior to coming to Los Angeles from Miami, Florida, he was a general assignment reporter at WSVN-7 as well as WLTV-23/Univision and the Telemundo Network. During his time with CBS2 and later KCAL News, he served as a Weathercaster and anchored newscasts on both stations.
Over the years, he has covered some of the biggest stories in the Southland. His favorites include Presidential visits and the arrival of the Space Shuttle Endeavor and its final journey through the streets of Los Angeles to the California Science Center.
Juan is fluent in Spanish. In relation to this, he is an advocate of the importance of learning more than one language and is a champion for literacy. Among his community service projects, Juan especially enjoys mentoring students who are pursuing careers in broadcasting.
