Julian Assange Biography
Julian Assange is an American journalist, computer programmer, and publisher who is currently editor-in-chief of WikiLeaks, which is a website that posts news leaks. He started the website back in 2006. Cutting straight to it, Assange was born in Townsville, Queensland, and made a program called Rubber Hose to hide secret information in a specific way that protects against torture.
Following his education, he attended many schools, including Gloomangar Primary School in New South Wales. Furthermore, he attended Townsville High School in Queensland.
WikiLeaks came to international attention in 2010 when it published a series of leaks provided by U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning. Talking about the leaks, including the Baghdad airstrike Collateral Murder video in April 2010, the Afghanistan war logs in July 2010, the Iraq war logs in October 2010, and many more.

Following the November 2010 incident where Sweden issued an international arrest warrant for Assange over allegations of sexual misconduct, he said the allegations were a pretext for his extradition from Sweden to the United States. This was over his role in the publication of secret American documents.
After losing his battle against extradition to Sweden, he breached bail and took refuge in the Embassy of Ecuador in London. Later on, he was granted asylum by Ecuador in August 2012 on the grounds of political persecution. Subsequently, Swedish prosecutors dropped their investigation in 2019. They said that their evidence had weakened due to the long period of time that has elapsed since the events in question.
Furthermore, during the 2016 U.S. election campaign, WikiLeaks published confidential Democratic Party emails, showing that the party’s national committee favored Hilary Clinton over her rival. Later on April 11, 2019, his asylum was withdrawn following a series of disputes with the Ecuadorian authorities.
Recently, On January 4, 2021, UK District Judge Venessa Baraitser ruled against the United States request to hand over Julian and stated that doing so would be “oppressive” given concerns over his mental health and risk of suicide. He was also denied bail, pending an appeal by the U.S. on January 6, 2021. Furthermore, the UK Supreme Court refused him permission to appeal in March 2022.
