Kat Dennings is an American actress who is known for her roles in various movies and films. She starred as Max Balck in the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls and as Darcy Lewis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero films Thor and Thor: The Dark World. She also has a role in the Disney+ miniseries WandaVision.
Since making her acting debut in 2000, she has appeared in films like The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005), Big Momma’s House 2 (2006), and many others films. Born in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Dennings grew up in Penn Cottage. Penna Cottage is a historic house built in 1694 in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, which she claims was haunted.
Beginning her career at 9, Dennings said that her family never had much money for formal acting training. Her first acting job was in an advertisement for potato chips. However, the advertisement included a poisonous ingredient and never made it to the market. In her early years, Dennings worked extra to earn her SAG card.
She was homeschooled and her only enrollment at a traditional school was for a half-day at Friends’ Central School. Dennings graduated from high school at the age of 14, and moved with her family to Los Angeles to pursue acting full-time under the professional surname “Dennings”.
She made her professional debut with an appearance on HBO’s Sex and the City in 2000, in the episode “Hot Child in the City”. After this, she starred in the short-lived WB sitcom Raising Dad from 2001 to 2002 as Sarah. In 2002, she appeared in the Disney Channel film The Scream Team as a teenager who stumbles into a group of ghosts. Additionally, she was cast for a five-episode run on The WB’s Everwood.
Following her career, she continued working on television, guest-starring on Without a Trace as a teen whose boyfriend goes missing. She also appeared in Less than Perfect in 2003. In February 2004, Dennings was cast in a pilot for CBS titled Sudbury. Sudbury chronicled a family of modern-day witches, based on the 1998 film Practical Magic. However, the series was not picked up.
Furthermore, she made her feature film debut in Hilary Duff’s Raise Your Voice in 2004 as Sloane. In 2005, Dennings landed supporting roles as a daughter of Catherine Keener’s character in The 40-Year-Old Virgin and as April in Down in the Valley. She then went on to play a rebellious teenager in the crime comedy film Big Momma’s House 2, starring Martin Lawrence.
Most recently, it was announced that she would star as Abby in the comedy film Friendsgiving in 2018. She starred in the Hulu comedy series Dollaface which started in November 2019. In addition, she reprised her role of Darcy Lewis in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a supporting role in the Disney+ superhero series WandaVision, which premiered on January 15, 2021.
