Katharine McPhee is an American singer-songwriter, as well as an actress. She finished second in the fifth season of American Idol in May 2006.
McPhee majored in musical theater at Boston Conservatory for three semesters. On the recommendation of her management, she dropped out of college before graduating and returned to Los Angeles to audition for television pilots. McPhee was cast as the older sister of a more popular younger sister in a mall-based MTV soap opera pilot called You Are Here. Moreover, the pilot was never aired on MTV, and the series was never picked up.
