Katy Blakey Biography
Katy Blakey is an American journalist who is currently working as a reporter and anchor for NBC5 News weekend evenings and reports during the week since joining the station in January of 2015. Her work has been honored with Lone Star Emmy nominations, including Best News Anchor, and recognized by the Oklahoma Associated Press.
Blakey is a proud graduate of McKinney High School and Southern Methodist University. Blakey graduated president of her class with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Political Science. After graduating, she interned for The Dallas Morning News and WFAA during the political convention in Boston.
Her career on the other hand started by interning at Belo Corporation where she researched and also engaged in field production. She also worked as a reporter and anchor at KTEN-TV, Denison, Texas where she anchored three hours of morning news. While in Texas, she did an investigative report on private jail funding which resulted in resignations and changes in local enforcement.

Blakey was also part of the morning team for all Next Media radio stations in Texas, delivering news & entertainment. She also served as a reporter and anchor for KOCO-TV in Oklahoma City, from June 2011 to November 2014. While there, she anchored the station’s fast-paced weekday morning show in the aggressive breaking news market and she was able to increase the weekend morning show rating from 3rd to first within one year.
In addition, she was the first reporter on the scene of a deadly medical helicopter crash. Her reporting also included a hostage situation ending with the rescue of a six-year-old girl, devastating wildfires, and severe storms. Most notably, she joined the NBC5 team in January 2015 where she anchored NBC5 News weekend evenings and reports during the week. Blakey has won an Emmy Award and has been nominated for several others.
