Kelvin Harrison Jr. is an award-winning American actor who rose to fame for his roles in Ender’s Game and 12 Years a Slave. He also gained more fame for playing other roles in The High Note (2020), The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020), It Comes at Night (2017), Elvis (2022) and Cyrano (2021). Harrison has received the Screen Actors Guild Award and various British Academy Film Award nominations.
Education
Born and raised in a small African-American suburb in New Orleans, Louisiana, Harrison grew up in the Garden District. Afterward, he moved to The Westbank where he studied engineering and marketing immediately before relocating to Los Angeles California with his family.
Harrison then attended and graduated from Isidore Newman School in New Orleans, Louisiana where he struggled as one of two African-American students studying there but managed to earn good grades. Originally, Kelvin then graduated with a Bachelor’s degree at Loyola University New Orleans but he transferred to the University of New Orleans to major in writing and directing his films.

Harrison’s career began in roles like the 2013 films Ender’s Game and 12 Years a Slave. Harrison made his acting debut official by starring in the film adaptation of a 1985 novel called Ender’s Game alongside Viola Davis, Harrison Ford, and Ben Kingsley. He then bagged another major acting role by appearing as a guest character in one episode on WGN America’s Underground and the remake of Roots.
Harrison then landed his first major small role on 12 Years a Slave which became his breakout role as an upcoming actor He went on to appear in other projects like Netflix’s Dee Ree’s Mudbound and a Psychological thriller called It Comes at Night (2017). Harrison’s most recent films and TV projects are The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020), The Photograph (2020), and The Wolf Hour(2019).
