Kimberly Godwin Biography
Kimberly Godwin is a renowned American television executive. Godwin was named president of ABC News in April 2021, making her the first black woman and the first black person to oversee a major broadcast news network.
Kimberly supervises editorial and business operations for broadcast, digital, streaming, and audio news across the organization which includes trusted and iconic franchises “World News Tonight,” “Good Morning America,” FiveThirtyEight, “20/20,” “Nightline,” “The View” and “This Week.” Godwin reports to Peter Rice, chairman of Disney General Entertainment Content.
Godwin received her bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism from Florida A&M University. FAMU’s journalism program was the first of its kind at a historically Black university. Moreover, she is currently the chair of her alma mater’s board of visitors.
Kimberly has worked in newsrooms across the country, including in New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Cleveland.
Godwin joined CBS News in 2007. She worked at CBS as a senior broadcast producer, executive director for development and diversity, and executive vice president of news throughout her time there.
In addition, Godwin spent 20 years at top local stations in the United States honing her journalistic and managerial skills before joining CBS News. Additionally, Kimberly has received six National News and Documentary Emmy Awards, two Edward R. Murrow Awards, an Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia Award, a Sigma Delta Chi Award, and the Ida B. Wells Award from the National Association of Black Journalists.
