LaTocha Scott Biography
LaTocha Scott is an occasional actress, R & B singer, and entrepreneur famous for being a member of the multi-platinum selling R& B group Xscape, who rose to popularity in the 1990s. In addition, she has contributed to Billboard Top 10 singles such as “Understanding” and “Just Kickin’ It. Recently, she signed an exclusive agreement with Motown Gospel.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia, she attended Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia. Later on, she attended Clark Atlanta University before attending the University of Phoenix where she graduated with a degree in business administration. Before she joined Xscape, she had been performing with a group called Percise.
On October 12, 1993, the Xscape group released their debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha. Surprisingly, the album peaked at seventeen on the United States Billboard 200 and number three on the Top R&B Albums chart. Furthermore, it was a critical commercial success, certified platinum within a year.
In 1995, the group released their second album, Off the Hook. Later in 1997, Xspace found new management and released their third album, Traces of My Lipstick which entered the Billboard 200 at number 28. Unfortunately, in 1999, Scott left the group and decided to pursue her music career as a solo artist.
As a solo artist, she appeared solo on NFL Jamz in 1998 with the song “Promises”. In 2002, she collaborated with rapper Trick Daddy and released the song “Thug Holiday”. In 2004, along with Tamika Scott, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, and new member Kiesha Miles, attempted to revamp Xscape but this reconciliation was short-lived and they disbanded in 2005.
Scott later released her new single “Bad Timing” from her studio album in 2012. Later in 2013, she starred in the second season of the TV One show R & B Divas: Atlanta. In 2017, she re-joined band members Tamika Scott, Kindi Buruss, and Tiny Harris to continue touring as Xscape.
