Leigh Spann is an American Certified Broadcast Meteorologist currently working at WFLA in Tampa, Florida. She joined the stations’ team in September of 2007.
Spann formerly worked at WCBD, a sister station in Charleston, SC, where she was the morning meteorologist. She got an Award of Merit for South Carolina Weathercaster of the Year while she was there. She also worked at Macon’s WMZ radio station.
Spann started working at WFLA in September 2007 and can be found every weekday at 4:30 a.m., where she will always show you how it will feel when you step outside. She also co-hosts the newscasts from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on WTTA Great 38, where she can be heard for weather forecasts at 7 a.m.
Leigh, who runs in the afternoons, says the weather tempts her to get out and explore the communities near her home. She has also completed two marathons. One of her favorite weekends of the year is the Gasparilla Distance Classics in Tampa. She is also a die-hard Georgia Bulldog and a college football lover.
In addition, Spann received the National Weather Association’s Broadcast Seal of Approval in 2008 and is a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.
Leigh earned a Bachelor of Science in Geography and a degree in Atmospheric Science from the University of Georgia. She was also one of the first students at the institution to receive an Atmospheric Science Certificate and to graduate from Magma Cum Laude.
