Melissa Viviane Jefferson known professionally as Lizzo is an American rapper, singer, and actress.in Detroit, Michigan, United States. Born in Detroit, Michigan & raised in Houston, Texas. Lizzo attained mainstream success with the release of her third studio album, Cuz I Love You (2019), which peaked at number four on the US Billboard 200.

Jefferson went to school at Alief Elsik High School in Alief and graduated in 2006. Viviane started music by training as a Flutist for eight years. She began rapping while in high school and formed a musical group called Cornrow Clique with her friend. During that time is when she was given the name “Lizzo”, a variant of “Lissa” inspired by Jay-Z’s “Izzo. After that, she joined the University of Houston where she continued to study classical music.
