Lori Stokes Biography
Lori Stokes is an American journalist and news anchor, currently working as the evening news anchor for the 5, 6, and 10 o’clock news at Fox 5 NY WNYW in New York City. Previously, Lori hosted “Good Day New York” on Fox 5 NY, WNYW, with Rosanna Scotto.
Lori attended Ohio State University and Howard University. She then started her career as the medical reporter and weekend co-anchor at WCIA in Campaign-Urbana, Illinois in 1986. Two years later, she moved to North Carolina to serve as a reporter and weekend anchor for WBTV.
Her next move saw her work as a crime and street reporter for WBFF-TV, the Fox Station in Baltimore. Finally, Lori got on hand experience as a full-time anchor as WJLA-TV’s lead female anchor of the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.
Stokes joined MSNBC at the time of its inception, serving as one of the original anchors on the 24-hour cable news television channel. Notably, she was the first African American to break on the cable news network. However, in 200, MSNBC hired Ashleigh Banfield to replace Stokes on the station’s Today in America.

Prior to joining Fox 5 News, Lori worked as a co-anchor of Eyewitness News This Morning at WABC, where she worked for the past 17 years. She joined WABC News from MSNBC/NBC. She is also known to have worked for WJLA-Tv in Washington, DC where she worked as an evening news anchor at six and 11 o’clock.
Lori was honored with the George P.Foster Peabody Award for her September 11, 2011 report of the World Trade Center attack. Moreover, she earned the 2003 Congressional Black Caucus Celebration of Leadership Award for her civic carrier and her function as a high-quality position model.
The New York City Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence venerated Lori for her work and great network outreach efforts.
Currently, Lori works n the Governing Board of Directors for the International Spy Museum. She is also a member of the Jack and Jill f America, founded in 1938 by the leadership of Marion Stubbs Thomas.
